Postdoctoral Scholars
Actively Recruiting! Multiple NIH funded positions available. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with various backgrounds and experiences in the life sciences. We employ a variety of in vitro, in vivo, and clinical research techniques to address our primary research questions. Our work is interdisciplinary, spanning diverse areas of neuroscience and metabolism. Combined with other resources available at UK, our lab can provide an ideal collaborative environment for both basic science and translational research. The lab has sufficient funds to support your research; however, postdocs are strongly encouraged to apply for their own funding as part of their research training and career development in the lab. Postdocs in our lab are eligible for prestigious T32 grants. Interested individuals should email me directly at [email protected]. Please include in the subject title "Prospective Postdoc." Please attach the following (1) a synopsis of their current research interests and how these would compliment the ongoing work in our laboratory; (2) a current CV with the names and contact info for 3 references. |
Laboratory Technicians
Positions Available We are currently looking to fill 1-2 Laboratory Technician positions. Prior experience in neurodegenerative research is a plus, but not required. Curiosity, initiative, hard work, and a team-first attitude are. Current studies in the lab range from cell culture, to animal models to clinical research. I have been very fortunate to have had exceptional mentors during the course of my career. We strive to create a similarly beneficial mentoring environment in our lab here at UK for both trainees and staff. Many former lab techs have gone on to graduate school, medical school, or other professional programs after gaining new skills and building their resume in the lab. Interested candidates should email me directly at [email protected] with the subject title "Lab Tech opportunity", and attach the following: (1) a brief description of your interest in our lab and why you would like to join our team, and (2) a current Resume/CV |
Undergraduate Students
Positions Available We are always looking to have interested and enthusiastic students participate in undergraduate research. Interested students should email me directly at [email protected] with the subject title "Undergraduate Research Opportunity", and attach the following: (1) a brief description of your interest in our lab and why you would like to join our team, and (2) a current Resume/CV that includes a list of previous and current science courses. Most students join the lab as a part of an independent research credit course (PGY 504 or BIO 395). There are also a number of fellowship opportunities available for gaining summer research experience. These include the Physiology Scholars Program, Bucks for Brains, and USTiCR@UK, among others. Many independent study programs provide a means to get research experience during the school year. The Office of Undergraduate Research at the University of Kentucky is a great resources for UK students. |
Why work at the University of Kentucky?
UK is one of a handful of US institutions with Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Health Sciences at one site.
The Department of Physiology ranks in the Top 5 in NIH Funding, and the interdisciplinary research in our lab benefits tremendously by the large number of Physiology faculty with expertise in three primary areas directly related to our own interests, including: neuroscience (16 faculty), metabolic disease (4 faculty), and aging (8 faculty). UK also features several prestigious NIH-funded centers, such as the Sanders Brown Center on Aging, Markey Cancer Center, Center for Clinical & Translational Science, and the Center for Stable Isotope-Resolved Metabolomics. |
